#122 closed bug (fixed)

possible bug and comments on reduction beta

Reported by: butler@… Owned by: srkline
Priority: minor Milestone: SANSReduction_5.1_Release
Component: SANS Reduction Keywords:
Cc: Blocking:

When using SORT, writing the combined file pops up an error box whose gist is "attempt to use a null string variable" it does however seem to write the files fine.

I first used the beta function to try to do the combine and found the same error (though I don't think it ever wrote a file -- and I didn't try).

The new function buttons of "preview only" and "warn" are VERY NICE features. It has long been annoying to have to write a junk file just to see what the computer thought the adjustment should be.

I must say I was unaware of this or the many other features I saw in the beta menu. (I tried all of them) The concepts are all really good ones I think. The lack of explanations or clarity in the layout makes them still a bit awkward (no doubt why they are "beta" :-) In particular I thought the feature of filling the MRED by distance would be very useful to the general user .. though doing in two steps from the drop down is obviously still kludgy. It would also be nice for it to figure out when you are close and there are no other configurations that are close (1.3m vs 1.33 for example)

RIght .. .enough observations for one use:-)

  • Milestone set to SANSReduction_5.1_Release

Can't seem to reproduce Paul's problem...

Beta functions are beta - Either we should fully document (and be sure that they REALLY work), or completely hide them.

  • Resolution set to fixed
  • Status changed from new to closed

Paul's bug was a result of trying to combine files when the proper tables had not yet been created (there was no documentation to tell him what to do...) - so his bug is really a non-issue.

the beta menu will be on by default, with a new help file accessed from the first item on the menu. It gives enough detail for users to test them out. We'll wait and see.
