Description

Having run down his Chelsea contract, Antonio Rudiger has been unveiled as a new Real Madrid player. The German international has signed a four-year deal until 2026 with the Spanish giants. Rudiger's move was first announced over a fortnight ago, but the German midfielder waited until the international break to finalise the deal. He has already undergone a medical in Spain, where he passed routine medical tests and a release clause at Real Madrid.

Antonio Rudiger revealed he was rooting for Real Madrid to win UEFA Champions League title
When asked why he opted to join Real Madrid, the German defender said he was rooting for the Spanish side. He is a former Chelsea player and said he had lost the FA Cup and League Cup finals to Liverpool. However, he is happy to join the Spanish giants and has his eye on the 2021 Champions League. In the meantime, he is working out his new contract.

While he was at Chelsea, the centre-back made his feelings clear to fans when he revealed he was rooting for Real Madrid in the players' poll. The defender also revealed that he had supported the Spanish side since his early years, writing in the Players' Tribune about racism. He also set high standards at a young age and was sent off against Hamburg on Matchday 9 of the 2013/14 campaign. However, he responded by matching an internal club fine to buy 1,000 tickets for local children's homes.

Rudiger's childhood
Josh Rudiger, who was arrested for stabbing a homeless man in the chest with a samurai sword, had a difficult childhood. As a child, Rudiger was a victim of abuse. He spent six months in Atascadero State Hospital after attempting to commit suicide with a samurai sword. Rudiger was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia when he was four and began living a double life as a ninja warrior.

In the youth system at the Borussia Dortmund club, Rudiger spent time training. He later transferred to Stuttgart and made his debut in 2012, against Borussia Monchengladbach. By the 2013/14 season, Rudiger was a regular in the first team. Today, he plays center-back for Chelsea and for the German national team. In March 2014, he was selected for the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament and has already played for his country a few times.

His release clause at Real Madrid
It seems that a new deal is close to being agreed between Rdiger and Real Madrid. The new contract will keep the German forward at the club for another six years with a EUR1bn release clause. He has been a fan favourite at the club and is just the third player to score 20 goals and create 20 assists. Real Madrid are now keen to lock him down until 2028, and have agreed to increase his buyout clause to a staggering one billion euros. The release clause is expected to be increased to a similar amount, and the fee will be discussed.

Rudiger's deal has a EUR400 million release clause and he will earn EUR9 to 10 million per season after tax. Chelsea will look to replace Rudiger in the summer and the new deal should be finalized after the Champions League final. Jules Kounde is another option for Chelsea. Despite the huge value of Rudiger, Chelsea will have to wait until after the Champions League final to confirm the deal.
